ACCIDENT & INCIDENT PROCEDURE

Frederic Chopin Polish School CIC is committed to promoting good health & to dealing efficiently and effectively with accidents & incidents that may arise & relate to both the children/ young people we look after & the staff, volunteers who work with us.
We request parents/carers sign for consent on their child/ young person’s admission form, giving us permission for their child to receive treatment in the event of an accident or incident whilst attending a session & in the case of a major accident/ incident for the child to be removed to hospital.
We always have a trained first-aider on duty & a fully stocked first aid box on site.
All accidents/incidents will be recorded in detail on an accident /existing injury or an incident form for parents/carers to read & sign. The completed form is then attached to the child/young person’s admission form.
MINOR ACCIDENT/INCIDENT
A first-aider will make an appropriate decision on any action or non-action required. If the child does not need hospital treatment the child will be treated on site, then the child/young person may be return to activities but will be kept under supervision for the remainder of the session.
The event will be logged on an accident/existing injury or incident form for the parent/carer to sign with details of any treatment given.

If the injury/illness is such that first aid treatment seems inappropriate but the condition does not warrant hospitalisation, the parent/carer will be contacted immediately and asked to collect their child. Until they arrive, the child will be kept under supervision and as comfortable as possible. The event will be logged on the accident/existing injury or incident form for the parent/carer to sign.

MAJOR ACCIDENT/INCIDENT
A first aider will make an appropriate decision on any action or non-action required. He/she will assess whether the child needs to go straight to hospital or whether they can safely wait for their parent/carer to arrive.

If the child needs to go to hospital, an ambulance will be called and the parent/carer will be contacted. A member of staff will accompany the child to hospital and will consent to medical treatment being given only if permission to do so has been signed by the child/young person’s parent/carer.

If the child does not need to go to hospital but needs to go home the parent/carer will be contacted to collect their child. Serious accidents will be reported to Ofsted and the Health & Safety Executive (HSE).

All accidents/incidents will be recorded in detail on the accident /existing injury or incident form for the parents to read and sign and have a copy, also a Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (R.I.D.D.O.R) form is completed & sent electronically to HSE.
